You can record audio in the app or upload recordings and we automatically transcribe spoken words into editable text using our transcription service. Accuracy depends on audio quality (clear, quiet recordings work best). Transcriptions are used only to generate and edit your memoir and are processed securely.

By default the AI aims to produce a substantive section (roughly ~1,000 words) to give a full narrative. If you'd prefer something shorter you can request a limited length output (for example, one paragraph, ~200 words). When generating you can also adjust the creative-license setting to control how strictly the AI sticks to your facts.

MemoirMaker.ai uses OpenAI-powered models for different tasks: a GPT model for creative writing, Whisper for speech-to-text transcription, and gpt-image-2 for optional cover art generation. We periodically upgrade our models to deliver the best quality — check the Updates page for the latest improvements. All generated output is fully editable in the editor so you can refine the final memoir.

Transcriptions for short recordings (a few minutes) usually finish within a few minutes. Processing time scales with file length and server load, so longer or high-quality files can take longer (potentially up to an hour or more for very long recordings). If a transcription is taking unusually long, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and include the memoir ID or filename so we can investigate.

Yes — MemoirMaker.ai includes an AI cover art generator. From inside the memoir editor, open the Cover section and describe the image you want; the AI generates a custom cover using your description. You can regenerate as many times as you like and the cover is included in your download. A memoir credit is required to access cover generation.

Yes — MemoirMaker.ai supports memoir creation in any language the AI model handles. Set the Language field in your memoir settings — the dropdown includes English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, and more. The AI will generate and revise sections in your chosen language. Live voice dictation in the web editor also automatically uses your selected language, so the microphone recognizes speech in that language. Transcription of uploaded audio recordings works best when the speaker and the selected language match. If you run into any language-specific issues, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai.

Yes — you can add up to three co-author names on any memoir project. Fill in the Author 1, Author 2, and Author 3 fields in the memoir editor. When generating or revising a section you can choose whose perspective to write from — any of the three authors or an omniscient third-person narrator. This makes MemoirMaker.ai well-suited for joint memoirs, couples' stories, or collaborative family histories.

These are context entries you add to a memoir project so the AI writes about them consistently throughout every section. For example, add a recurring character named "Grandma Rose" with a short description, and whenever she appears in a section the AI will write about her with that background in mind. The same works for recurring places (your childhood home, a favorite lake) and objects (a family heirloom, a car). You can add and manage these from the memoir editor.

Yes — in the memoir editor you can list author names as style influences. The AI will blend elements of those authors' writing styles into your prose without naming them directly. You can also set a tone (e.g. reflective, humorous, lyrical) and adjust the creative-license slider from 2 (stick strictly to your facts) to 10 (maximum creative latitude) to shape how the AI interprets your notes.

Yes — each section has both a Generate and a Revise option. Use Generate to create a section from scratch using your notes. Use Revise to update an existing section: type new instructions describing the changes you want, and the AI will rewrite the section incorporating your feedback while keeping the overall style and tone consistent.

Yes — when generating or revising a section, you can choose the narrator perspective: any of your listed co-authors writing in first person, or a third-person omniscient voice. This lets different family members tell their own chapters in their own voice within the same memoir.

Yes — on the checkout page, select the memoir pack that suits your gift and proceed through the standard purchase flow. The memoir credits are added to your account, and you can help your loved one create their memoir by collaborating as a co-author, or by sharing access with them. If you need credits transferred to a different account, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and we can assist.

Yes — MemoirMaker.ai has a sister site called MemoirMovies.com that turns finished memoirs into hand-painted, narrated films. Once your memoir is complete, visit MemoirMovies.com and sign in with the same email address you use here; your memoirs will import in one click. MemoirMovies.com is free to try.

New accounts can create their first memoir for free even without a paid credit. For AI-generated content, unpaid accounts are limited to creating up to 3 AI-generated sections total (enforced across both web and iOS app). Downloads (DOCX and PDF) are also restricted to paid accounts — free users will be prompted to upgrade when they attempt to download. To lift all restrictions (additional memoirs, unlimited sections, downloads), purchase memoir credits on the Pricing page.

Yes — MemoirMaker.ai is available on iOS. Download the app from the App Store (search "MemoirMaker.ai" or visit https://apps.apple.com/app/memoirmaker-ai/id6756924405) to record, transcribe, and edit your memoirs on the go.

Yes — please update the MemoirMaker mobile app to the latest version from the App Store for the best experience. Older app versions may be required to update before they can continue to sync or use certain features.

MemoirMaker.ai has a set of free resource guides covering memoir writing topics — from getting started and voice-to-memoir workflows to writing prompts and family history books. You can access them from the Resources menu in the top navigation, or browse topics like "How to Write a Memoir" and "Memoir Writing Prompts" directly from the site. All guides are free and do not require an account.

Yes — a short overview video is on the MemoirMaker homepage. Visit memoirmaker.ai and look at the top of the page to watch a quick walkthrough of how to speak or type memories, generate chapters, and export a finished memoir.

Yes — we offer refunds for unused memoir credits requested within 14 days of purchase. If credits have already been used, refunds are considered case-by-case. To request a refund, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and include your order/transaction ID and a brief explanation. Provider refunds are processed through the original payment method and may take several business days to appear on your statement; we'll notify you when the refund is completed.

Each memoir credit lets you create one memoir project on MemoirMaker.ai. That includes using our AI writing tools, transcription of uploaded/recorded audio, editing and organization tools in the editor, cover generation, and the ability to download your finished memoir. Credits are applied to your account immediately after purchase and are consumed when you create a new memoir.

Purchased memoir credits are normally applied to your account immediately. First, sign out and sign back in, refresh the page, and check your email (including spam) for the receipt and transaction ID. If credits still don't appear after a few minutes, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and include your order/transaction ID, purchase time, and the email address used for the purchase so we can investigate and apply credits if needed. We accept major credit and debit cards processed via Stripe. Purchases are one-time memoir credit bundles (not recurring) and you must be signed in to complete a purchase. Receipts are emailed immediately after a successful payment and credits are applied to your account right away — if credits do not appear, sign out and back in, then contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai with your order/transaction ID and the email used for the purchase.

Yes — you must be signed in to complete a purchase. If you try to check out while logged out, the site will prompt you to register or sign in. Purchased credits are applied to your account immediately and a receipt is emailed to the address on file.

A receipt is emailed to the address on file immediately after a successful purchase. If you don't see it within a few minutes, please check your spam/junk folder and try signing out and back in; if the receipt is still missing, contact support with your order/transaction ID and we'll resend it.

A memoir credit is consumed when you create a new memoir project. Credits are applied to your account immediately after a successful purchase. Deleting a memoir does not automatically return a used credit; if you believe a credit was consumed in error, contact support with your order/transaction ID and account email so we can investigate.

Yes — active AuthorPass members from selfpublishing.pro automatically receive a 50% discount on all memoir credit packs. When you visit the checkout page, your discounted prices are shown automatically with the original price crossed out — no coupon code is needed. If you believe you qualify and the discount is not appearing, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai with your account email.

Yes — if you have an affiliate coupon code, enter it in the coupon field on the checkout page before clicking through to payment. Coupon codes give 10% off your purchase and are single-use per customer. AuthorPass members from selfpublishing.pro receive a separate automatic 50% discount and do not need a coupon code.

Your free trial memoir and purchased credits share the same total allowance — credits are added to that total, not to a separate pool. If you have already used your free memoir, the 1-memoir pack would bring your total allowance to 1, which is already filled. To create a second memoir after your free trial, the 3-memoir pack (or higher) is the right choice: it gives you 3 total allowed memoirs, meaning 2 additional slots beyond your original one. Your free trial memoir stays in your account and is fully editable and downloadable after any purchase.

We protect your memoirs with HTTPS across the site and secure session handling (Secure, HttpOnly cookies with SameSite=Lax). User files and backups may be stored on our servers or moved to encrypted cloud storage for long-term retention; private memoirs are not shared publicly. If you want data removed or have privacy concerns, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and we'll assist with account verification and deletion requests.

After registering you may receive a short welcome/nurture email sequence to help you get started; transactional emails (receipts and account notifications) will always be sent. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in the message.

We store memoirs and related files on our secure infrastructure. Some user files (backups, generated covers, final DOCX/PDF) may be moved to encrypted cloud storage as part of routine operations for durability and backup. Files used for downloads are protected and not publicly exposed. If you need help exporting, downloading, or permanently deleting your files, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and we'll assist promptly.

We retain your memoirs and account data until you delete the memoir or request account deletion. For a full account deletion, visit <a href="/delete-account">memoirmaker.ai/delete-account</a> for step-by-step instructions or contact hello@memoirmaker.ai — requests are processed within 30 days. To delete individual memoirs (without closing your account), use the delete option in the editor and confirm by typing YES. For privacy or legal requests please include any required verification details so we can act quickly. Note: purchase and transaction records are retained for up to 7 years for tax and legal compliance.

By contacting us you agree to receive messages at these numbers; message frequency varies and standard message/data rates may apply. You may reply STOP to opt out of texts or HELP for assistance. Memoir projects and downloads are included with your memoir credit and (per our current plan features) are accessible for one year after creation. If you need longer-term retention or want a permanent copy, download a PDF/DOCX backup or contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and we can assist with export or extended retention options.

To help us resolve billing or credit problems quickly, please include: (1) the email address on your account, (2) the order or transaction ID from your receipt (if available), (3) the date/time of the purchase, and (4) a short description of the issue and any relevant screenshots. If your credits don't appear after purchase, sign out and sign back in first — then contact hello@memoirmaker.ai with the above details so we can investigate and apply credits if needed.

Visit <a href="/delete-account">memoirmaker.ai/delete-account</a> for full instructions. To request deletion, email hello@memoirmaker.ai from your account email address with the subject "Delete my account" and include the email you use to sign in (or your User ID from the iOS app Settings if you use the app without signing in). We verify the request and permanently delete your account within 30 days, sending a confirmation email when complete. Your memoir content, recordings, and AI drafts are removed; purchase records are kept for up to 7 years for legal compliance. To remove individual memoirs without closing your account, use the delete option in the web editor or iOS app.

You can download your finished memoir as a print-ready PDF and a Word document (DOCX). If you need other formats such as EPUB or a specific file layout, contact support (hello@memoirmaker.ai) and we'll advise on available export options or help with a custom export.

Yes — you can record audio in three ways: (1) use the microphone button in the web editor to dictate directly into any section (browser-based, language-matched to your memoir's language setting); (2) record in the iOS app; or (3) upload an audio file for transcription. For best results, speak clearly in a quiet space with a microphone held close to the speaker. After transcription you can edit, reorganize, and expand the text in the editor.

You can download your finished memoir from the project page as a print-ready PDF or a Word document (DOCX). Open the memoir from Your Memoirs, use the Export/Download option in the editor, and choose PDF or Word. Note: downloading requires a paid memoir credit — free accounts will be prompted to upgrade. Downloads are accessible for the retention period shown on your account (currently 1 year per plan). If you need a different format (EPUB) or help downloading on mobile, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai and include your account email and memoir ID.

From Your Memoirs, click Delete on the memoir card and confirm the prompt to remove it. You'll be asked to type YES before the memoir is permanently deleted. Deleted memoirs cannot be recovered, so if you're unsure, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai before proceeding.

Download links for your memoir files (Word document, PDF, and cover image) are secure temporary links that expire after one hour. If your link has expired, simply open the memoir in the editor or app and request the download again to get a fresh link.

The iOS app stores memoirs under a device-based account that is separate from your website login. If you log in to the iOS app using your MemoirMaker.ai email and password, the app will automatically import any device memoirs into your web account — you should see them appear in Your Memoirs on the website within a few moments. If memoirs still do not appear after signing in, contact support at hello@memoirmaker.ai with your account email and a brief description (approximate dates, memoir title or subject) and we can link them manually.

Open your memoir in the editor and click Organize in the sidebar. You can drag and drop sections into any order, and use the indent buttons to create sub-sections or nested chapters. When you're happy with the arrangement, click Save Order. The final order is reflected in the table of contents and throughout your downloaded memoir.
